Pokémon Adidas crossover sneaker line releases in Japan, gives your feet Pikachu hugs [Pics]

Collaboration gets off to an early start in Pokémon’s home country.

There’s a lot of walking in Pokémon. The young Trainers who serve as the protagonists of the video games and anime are generally too young to drive, and besides, catching ‘em all involves venturing far afield in order to find the rarest Pocket Monster breeds.

So if you’ve got some real-world walking of your own to do, Adidas wants to let you do it in Pokémon sneakers.

The Pokémon 30th Anniversary Adidas Originals line is now on sale in Japan, with the crossover combining some of the most iconic Pokémon with some of Adidas most popular footwear models. Pikachu, naturally, shows up multiple times, first in the Superstar II mid-tops above, with a textured Pikachu hugging your ankles. Meanwhile, the low-top Pikachu Superstar II focuses on the face of the franchise’s ears, while also recreating his fluffy fur on the shoes’ outside.

Two different smile-inducing smiling Pikachus can be found around back, but if you want even more of them walking with you, these will do the trick.

The colors of the Charmander Superstar II will immediately evoke happy memories of time spent with the Gen-I starter…

…and the flames on the side will remind even newer fans know that this is a Fire-type.

Speaking of Charmander, Adidas’ Pokémon collection marks a rare occasion for Charmeleon, Charmander’s first evolution (i.e. his form before evolving into Charizard) to enjoy some time in the spotlight with its own Superstar II version.

Ghost-type fashion comes in the form of a menacing Gengar Adistar XLG 2.0…

…and Haunter Adistar Control 5, which has a more subtle nod to its inspiration in the shape of the shoe’s tongue.

Rayquaza shows up twice, befitting its importance as a Legendary Pokémon, with both Megaride and ZX 500 RS versions…

…or, if you want to show off a real old-school Legendary Pokémon, there’s the Mewtwo Samba OG

Adidas tends to put aesthetics before affordability in its limited-edition models, and the shoes shown above range in price from 16,500 to 33,000 yen (approximately US$105-US$210). They’re available as of September 15 in Japan through the Adidas Japan online shop and Rakuten (here and here), and are scheduled to start making their way to overseas retailers starting September 22.
